Fakeheads release!

Fakeheads vol.2 is out! Come celebrate with us tomorrow night at Panda NYC~~~ The covers of the new book are ~~hand silk screened~~ by Maya, Jake, and Isam, and they look greaattt (as do their comics on the inside!) It's a huge honor to be a part of the Fakeheads crew >_<

AAAAAAAHHH The Static Fish crew and I just got an email from our awesome printer-liaison Michael Quinn with photos of the finished print of the next Static Fish issue, they look AMAZING. I cannot wait to get my hands on them and rub them all over my face.

OK this art isn't mine, but I printed it~~~ It's the art of Maritsa Patrinos, she draws the web comic Seasonal Depression!

basically I am just trying to become really familiar with the risograph and practice using it a lot. for this book Maritsa wanted some sections in blue and some in purple, so the challenge for me was to make sure the pages and colors matched up back-to-back and color-to-color (since you can only print one color at a time on a risograph).

it went pretty smoothly! the book is about 24 pages so I thought it would take a long time and that I would mess up a lot of test pages, but actually it went a lot faster than I anticipated and with few scrapped paper.

smoke signals

These are submissions for Desert Island's Smoke Signal publication. The first comic was published in Issue 5 and I'm crossing my fingers that the second one will get into Issue 6. these comics are always super awkward to show people because everyone assumes that one of the bunnies is me and the other is my sister and that the stories are true and they actually aren't and you leave my sister out of it.

I made a grid for the second one, look at how much better it looks!! Hahahahah

sister of mine

Last month my sister was hit by a taxi while biking and broke her collar bone. She's completely fine now and back to her usual routine of working out all the time.

Susannah

This is the comic I drew for the 2010 color issue of Static Fish. It is based on the song "Ain't It a Pretty Night" from the opera Susannah by the American composer Carlisle Floyd.

There is a very beautiful performance of this song by Renee Fleming over here on the tubes of you. Someday I would like to see Susannah on stage.

Static Fish in Real Places (reel places?)

check it dudes, Static Fish is having a release party next week and you're invited.
It's happening at Desert Island next Tuesday the 8th at 7pm. (540 metropolitan ave, take the L or G to Lorrimer!!)

If i haven't explained before: Static Fish is this 25-year-old, school-funded, student-run comic Pratt Institute publication that I've been involved in since freshman year. It's been exciting to see how my peers (piers?) have developed and improved over the past three years. For this volume we went bat-shit crazy on the production, it's hard-bound and full color. I gotta give props to Jane Wu for really spear-heading Static Fish and the Comic Club, keeping everything organized and everyone on their toes. and to Jay Ray Stephens for believing our ideas into reality.

these pages were drawn at the beginning of May, looking at them now I really want to put tones on it arghhh. They are for a future issue of Static Fish (fall2010 probably).

hand over waves

school is slaying me but i'm having a good time
this term is weird, for the first time in years i am working mostly with traditional media in large format (collage, silkscreen, wash). it's quite fulfilling, but also means the images aren't conveniently on my hard drive to share (and I don't own a scanner). must work on taking good photos..

i'm working on a group book project called STATIC FISH, the bare-bones blog is here: http://staticfish.blogspot.com These images are the cover and also spot illustrations of just kind of coked-out looking paranoid fish. The cover is silkscreened with a layer added in photoshop (the light white over the figure.)
anyway, the book should debut at MoCCA, it's like 60 pages of full color dreamyness.

Comic done for HATCH/Static Fish publication at my school.
It's based off of someone I knew last term, he never slept and this term he's disappeared. I wonder where he went and if he's okay.

Anyway, I am pretty displeased that when I ink with brush it looks totally different than when I ink with a pen. I am not sure which direction to take.
